Your consultant may suggest Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). The ICSI technique is usually recommended when the male partner has听a very low听sperm count, poor听morphology听or motility. This method is also used when the sperm has been retrieved听surgically听or听previous听IVF attempts suggest that ICSI should be used.听
ICSI only differs from conventional IVF in the way sperm is treated in the laboratory. Rather than mixing the prepared sperm with the eggs, the embryologist selects a single sperm to inject directly into the egg. The rest of the treatment is the same as IVF.听
